Using Plex on a 32:9 Ultrawide and not hating yourself
It's rare that I actually use Plex for Windows when I want to watch a movie. But sometimes I want to watch Hackers for the 500th time without disturbing my wife, so I resort to watching it on my PC.
I've got a 49" Samsung OLED ultrawide as my primary monitor, and Plex is an absolute dog when it comes to watching movies fullscreen without wasting 75% of the available screen space.
However, after doing some digging, I found that there's actually been a solution floating around since March 2024.
There is a LUA script available that you drop into the scripts folder located here:
C:\Users\[Your Username]\AppData\Local\Plex\scripts
Copy/Paste: (Or click here to download. Right-Click, Save As)
local zoom = 0
local function zoomIn()
mp.command("add video-zoom 0.05")
zoom = mp.get_property_number("video-zoom", 0)
mp.osd_message(string.format("Zoom: %.2f", zoom))
end
local function zoomOut()
mp.command("add video-zoom -0.05")
zoom = mp.get_property_number("video-zoom", 0)
mp.osd_message(string.format("Zoom: %.2f", zoom))
end
local function zoomReset()
mp.command("set video-zoom 0")
mp.osd_message("Zoom reset")
end
mp.add_forced_key_binding("+", "zoomIn", zoomIn)
mp.add_forced_key_binding("-", "zoomOut", zoomOut)
mp.add_forced_key_binding("0", "zoomReset", zoomReset)To a file named zoom-keybinds.lua to the director mentioned above.
Now you can control the video zoom in Plex using:
+Zoom in
-Zoom out
0Reset zoom
Definitely a game changer. I found this information on the Plex Forums.
