Fable 3
Fable 3 was a sequel that I had been waiting on for a few years. Unfortunately, it was a bit of a disappointment and really felt that it could have been an add-on to Fable 2. In this game, you’re one of the sons of the hero from Fable 2 who became the King of Albion. You get exiled from the castle after your brother, the current king, decides to be a douche to the people of Albion.
You start your quest joining a group planning an uprising against the kingdom to overthrow your brother and change things for the better. This sounds great and all but let’s stop talking about the story and talk about the actual game itself.
Overall the game plays the same as the previous Fable games. What makes it different however is how you level. Instead of collecting orbs like the last game, you get guild seals that unlock chests on the ‘Road to Rule’. Each chest contains different goodies and upgrades but most of them don’t matter. For instance, would you rather play Lute Hero level 3 or max out your magic? Most of the Road to Rule is just for achievement point whores.
To change weapons and clothes and to view the world map, you press Start which takes you to a room with your butler Jasper (John Cleese) which has several areas to explore. You’ll spend most of the time in your armory and your treasure room where Jasper will hound you to buy crap from the Xbox Live Marketplace.
Choose a weapon and an outfit and never bother returning to the armory. Seriously, there’s no point. Each weapon does about the same damage and although they can be upgrade, it’s more achievement point non-sense. I used the same hammer through the entire game which brings me to my next complaint.
The game was too damn easy. I did most side quests and completed the story in 12 hours and without dying a single time. I spent more time not playing the game so I could collect gold for the final quests instead of actually playing the game. Plug in a wired controller, idle somewhere safe and collect gold from rental properties. This is too bad really, the game is beautiful and the story is pretty good but overall it just feels like a half-assed Fable 2 addon more than anything else. I got the game on Black Friday for $30 at Target. I suggest not spending more than that. Also, the dog is retarded and useless in this game.
